How to make a small bathroom look bigger with tiles

How To Make A Small Bathroom Look Bigger With Tiles Small bathrooms are very common in the UK, particularly in London and surrounding areas! Space is a premium for many homes and the bathroom is typically one of the smallest rooms in the house. Many of us have experienced the stress of decorating or furnishing small rooms with awkward spacing. A common issue we hear from clients is they often don’t know where to start for a small bathroom design. Fortunately, team Kallums are experts at working with small spaces and designing luxurious small bathrooms. We can transform even the smallest of rooms into an exquisite, stylish space. Plus, we know all the tips and tricks to make your bathroom feel and appear visually larger than it is. Here our dedicated bathroom experts share their wealth of knowledge on how to make your small bathroom look bigger with tiles. What size tile for small bathroom? Tiles can make or break any bathroom design. Choosing bathroom tiles is no easy task, particularly when dealing with small spaces. There are many different ways to utilise tiles to make a room appear larger, such as playing with colour and reflectivity. However, it might come as a surprise that the size of a tile is one of the best ways to create the illusion of depth and breadth. One of the easiest and most effective options are large format tiles as they cover a larger surface area and result in fewer grout lines. Plus, if you use large format tiles on the walls and floor you will achieve a flowing seamless design. They are a great option to make your room feel more spacious and appear bigger. Top tip – If possible, match your grout to the colour of your tile to further exaggerate the feeling of space! That doesn’t mean that small bathroom tiles are completely out of the question. It’s true you need to be more careful with smaller tiles, due to increased number of grout lines that can produce an almost grid like appearance which can encourage the feeling of being enclosed. However, if you use both small and larger tiles it helps avoid creating a grid like appearance. We suggest using small tiles on smaller surface areas and larger tiles everywhere else. By using two different types of tiles, especially if they have different surface textures, the result can be a stylish contrast that adds some much-needed depth. Tiles to make small bathroom look bigger Our talented bathroom designers have complied their favourite small bathroom tile ideas that will result in a luxurious style bathroom that promotes the feeling of space and serenity. Monochrome Magic It is generally accepted that white bathroom tiles are great to brighten up any space. However, if used in excess it can result in the room feeling cold and rather plain – but it can be a different story if paired with black bathroom tiles! You can create some monochrome magic by using black and white bathroom tiles together. A monochrome look offers a chic contrast and depth while promoting the feeling of space. Fancy something a bit more luxurious? Opt for black and white marble tiles to create the feeling of elegance and grander proportions. Create a feature wall One of our favourite small bathroom tile ideas is a feature wall! This is one of the best opportunities to use small bathroom tiles and go bold with colour. It can really help pull a bathroom décor scheme together as well as drawing eyes to that area of the room. Patterned tiles continue to be extremely popular and can make a stunning feature wall. Another great option are wood effect tiles, which can add some much-needed warmth and depth to your small space. You might be wondering where a feature wall would be best located – we suggest the wall around the shower or bath. . Stylish Patterned Floor As mentioned already, patterned tiles are very popular and it’s easy to see why. When you find a pattern you love it can be tempting to use this everywhere! We advise against this. Instead, consider using patterned tiles exclusively on the floor to create a real statement and really bring your small space to life. When paired with neutral toned walls, the result is a stunning small bathroom design that will look luxurious in years to come. Get Glossy We mentioned earlier that there are many ways to utilise tiles to make a room appear larger, one of which was reflectivity. Gloss tiles reflect light which enhances the feeling of space, particularly when natural light is being bounced around the room. A glossy metro tile (or subway tile) can be a great option, as long as it’s not being used to cover the entire bathroom. Consider natural toned gloss tiles to keep that spacious feel or add a pop of colour to a feature wall with a bright pastel tone. How We Transformed Our Luxury London Bathroom Showroom

How We Transformed Our Luxury London Bathroom Showroom 2021 was an exciting and progressive year for Kallums. We gave our luxury bathroom showroom a completed overhaul – it’s most extensive refurbishment to date! Transforming our London bathroom showroom enables us to provide a luxurious bathroom experience like no other. As the year drew to a close and we finalised the finishing touches of our new showroom displays, we received fantastic news. Our showroom became a finalist in the KBB Review Retail & Design Awards 2022 for ‘Bathroom Showroom of The Year’! It certainly was an incredible way to end the year, and we are beyond proud of our entire team. After a long and rather cold January, we entered February with renewed excitement! The countdown is officially on for the KBB Retail & Design Awards 2022 in Birmingham. With less than 4 weeks to go, we decided to sit down for a chat with our talented in-house designer Alex. Alex designed many of our new stunning showroom displays, so we wanted to get her thoughts on our showrooms amazing transformation and how that resulted in us being a KBB finalist! Visit our showroom What makes the Kallums Bathrooms Showroom stand out against other bathroom retailers?  We recently went through a major refurbishment! Most importantly our displays are completely fresh and include the best new product collections. These new display showcase lots of different finishes (brushed brass, black, warm steel, gunmetal and chrome) as well as the latest trends and styles. We spent lots of time carefully selecting stylish bathroom tiles, as it’s important for clients to see various textures, colours, and way of tiling. This is something I feel other bathroom showrooms don’t focus on that much. However, what really sets our luxury bathroom showroom apart from is our exceptional customer service from start to finish. We offer a comprehensive service that includes bathroom design, supply and installation. Plus, a highly talented expert team who can create exceptional luxury bathrooms. What key changes were made to the luxury bathroom showroom that resulted with being a KBB finalist? During the lockdowns, we spent a lot of time reflecting on the look of our luxury bathroom showroom. We thought hard about the products we want to sell and the suppliers we want to work with. It’s extremely important for client to see the latest trends, a vast selection of different styles and finishes, as well as products at different price points. Plus, we like to include some more bespoke and unusual pieces. As well as the new displays, we decluttered and created a nice open space meeting area. Overall, the showroom now looks more spacious and welcoming for retail and professional clients. I believe we achieved everything we planned to do and then some, and I think the KBB judges could see this and is why we are a finalist. What is your favourite new display and why? There are two displays that I really love! The first is our front window display that features Gessi brassware, Idea Group NYU furniture and Majestic fluted glass. It is very simple but sophisticated. I really like the terrazzo tiles with marble effect slabs; overall it’s a very elegant bathroom design. The second is our new Lefroy Brooks display. Traditional, art deco style designs are one of my favourites! We chose large, busy tiles with heavy grey veins and paired with Bard and Blackwood furniture in a light gold finish. The brassware is a polished nickel finish, which works perfectly with the tiles. It’s a very brave colour scheme that makes a statement, which is something every showroom should have. What factors do you consider before designing a new display? When designing new bathroom displays, I analyse what brands, styles and manufactures my clients are asking for. I feel it’s so important to work with good quality brands and reliable suppliers, and I prefer to include those in my displays. Where did you find inspiration for creating the displays? I take my inspiration mainly from online on social media channels such as Pinterest, Houzz, LinkedIn but also from my suppliers and clients. I also find design exhibitions in UK and abroad really inspirational, and it’s great to see some many new trends and product prototypes in situ. As well the world slowly returns to ‘normal’ I hope to start visiting more bathroom design shows. What are your current favourite bathroom design trends? My favourite bathroom design trend is the simple, classic traditional look! With vertical, decorative tiles used for feature walls and patterned floors and complemented by traditional style basin stands and brassware.  I’m also a fan of modern bathroom designs where I can use a composite basin with slimline vanity unit and large porcelain slabs without any grout lines. Favourite luxury bathroom brands?  For traditional bathroom designs my favourite brands are Samuel Heath and Lefroy Brooks! But for more modern bathroom designs my favourites are Vola, Gessi, Idea Group, Catalano, Flaminia and The Sterlingham Company. What do you love the most about being a part of Team Kallums? The thing I love the most about Team Kallums is how quickly we have grown since I joined, and how we all have big plans and dreams for the near future that we are working hard towards. What makes the best London Bathroom Designer?

What makes the best London Bathroom Designer? The bathroom design business in London is a very busy and competitive market. Designing and installing luxurious and practical bathrooms is no small matter. There is lots to think about when it comes time to decide on fixtures, fittings, finishes and other practical considerations like electric and plumbing. With so many striving to be the best London bathroom designer it is extremely rewarding when your work is recognised and celebrated by industry experts! Which is why we are extremely proud that our in-house London Bathroom Designer Gary Read has been nominated not once, but twice for Bathroom Designer Of The Year in the KBB Reveiw Retail and Design Awards.  This seemed like an ideal opportunity for us to catch up with Gary! One afternoon in-between clients we  spoke with Gary about the latest London Bathroom Design trends and what he thinks we will see more of in 2022. Read on below to find out more about the process of designing a luxury award-nominated London bathroom. We share his best advice for you if you are thinking of starting your own bathroom project. Or you could check out our case studies to see some of Gary’s award-nominated bathroom designs in action! What makes a bathroom that has been designed by Kallums Bathrooms so unique? Can you identify it from others? I like to spend a considerable amount of time with a client. This is often over several meetings, consulting and focusing on all the aspects and qualities of the bathroom. We’ll cover the overall design layout to the smaller details which in my opinion cannot be neglected! I like to think that the bathrooms I create with my clients have that attention to the smaller details that often get overlooked and forgotten. Can you tell us a little more about the process of designing a luxury London Bathroom…what’s involved? Usually, it’s best to start with the bigger picture and work my way down to the smaller details. A typical bathroom design will see me playing around and experimenting with various layout options. Once I am happy with the overall layout, I then start to look at the specifics of the styling and more closely at the details. Once I am happy with the overall design features, I then begin to play with various lighting options. I’ll focus on the different materials, finishes, textures, and tiling formats. Throughout this process I am liaising with the client. Its important to engage with them to ensure we are both on the right track and moving towards a design ideal. Do you have a favourite from the new Putney luxury bathroom showroom displays and why? The new Kallums London Bathroom Showroom is our best yet for sure, and well worth a visit. It’s difficult to choose my favourite installation but I have to say I do love the new Oxide Verdigris slab tile we have on display now.  I think it looks like a sheet of copper that has gradually developed a rich green / turquoise patina… reminiscent of Verdigris. What new bathroom trend in 2022 do you think we will see?  Open plan ensuites! If it is the wow-factor you are looking for then this design choice will most definitely tick the box. London ensuites can often be quite cramped – by removing the walls you can often make the bedroom and ensuite feel larger and lighter.  What are some of your favourite bathroom brands in 2022?  There are so many brands I like to work with, but I have always appreciated IdeaGroup. I know their numerous ranges inside out and this really helps me when I am creating new designs. They make wonderfully designed vanity units, and their service is one of the best in the industry. Wetroom materials are my go-to wet floor with their unidrain product. I particularly like using Thermosphere’s dual control to thermostat which operates both the underfloor heating and towel warmer. It’s from one programmable control, much more practical than duel fuel or central heating only! Is there a particularly exciting or challenging project you have worked on recently? They all have their challenges, one way or another! A project I am currently working on, the client would like an open ensuite in their master bedroom, open plan ensuite you could call it! This has been a challenge to design as we want to achieve a soft transition between the bedroom space and the ensuite. One of the ways we have achieved this is to use a wood effect porcelain tile throughout the flooring which helps to blend the two spaces together. Then coupled with similar tones throughout between light switches and bath taps, we can allow the spaces to work together. What sparks your imagination for new bathroom design ideas?  I often look at pinterest as a lot of the design houses & Architects create experimental 3D renders and visualisations of new designs, trends and styles which make their way there. Unlike years ago, now, a 3D model and render can be done in less than a day. This is so realistic as you can see exactly how a space will look, being able to experiment without the time and cost involved allows for a much more diverse and rich design concepts.   If someone was reading this and was about to begin their own bathroom design project, what would be your best advice to them? Gain a good idea of the type of bathroom you want to create. Try and get inspiration from the likes of Pinterest, Houzz etc then take that idea and come and see someone like myself! We can make it happen whilst helping you avoid the potential pitfalls and traps you can find yourself in if you take such a project on yourself. And wildcard question! What was your favourite film of 2021? I love sci fi, so I have to say Dune was a real treat to watch! Read more about Bathroom Design Lets

Black Bathroom Ideas

Black Bathroom Ideas The colour black is renowned. Christian Dior himself once said “You can wear black at any time. You can wear it at any age. You may wear it for almost any occasion; a little black frock is essential to a woman’s wardrobe.” However, the colour black isn’t only iconic in the world of fashion. It’s iconic in bathrooms too! Black bathrooms are the epitome of luxury and exude glamour. Even though black has never gone out of fashion, it’s experiencing a revival in modern bathroom design! Black and white bathrooms, or monochrome bathrooms, are also making a big comeback. Easy to see why when it offers such a chic vibe! Considering the colour black for your bathroom renovation? – Rest assured that your bathroom will be sleek and sophisticated for years to come. Adding such dark and moody colours to your bathroom sounds rather scary to some people. If this is holding you back from creating a luxurious black bathroom – fear not! Below are the best ways to incorporate this timeless colour into your bathroom décor. Modern Black Bathrooms Of course, the colour black is not exclusive to contemporary bathrooms and certainly has its place in traditional bathroom designs – but black is definitely a staple within modern bathroom designs.  A modern black bathroom can offer a stylish, sophisticated luxury when designed well. Black bathroom décor can create a striking colour scheme. One of the best ways to achieve this is with black bathroom tiles. There are several ways you can use tiles to enhance black bathroom design. A great option is a feature wall! Either plain black or patterned will look stunning. Or you could even opt for a feature floor! Black and white patterned tiles are a great choice for this. We wouldn’t recommend using black tiles to cover every wall, as this could make the space too dark and moody. Instead, we suggest black hexagonal tiles on the floor and halfway up the walls, with the rest of the wall painted white or with large white tiles. The result – luxurious black bathroom décor that will remain stylish in years to come. To further elevate your design, we highly recommend a black frame shower screen. They work particularly well in monochrome bathrooms and can add some industrial style elegance to your modern black bathroom design. Black Bathroom Taps Upgrading your brassware is a great place to start, especially if you don’t want a complete re-design. Most UK bathrooms have white ceramics and baths. If this applies to you, switch your current bathroom taps for black basin and bath taps. This will help create a stylish black and white bathroom aesthetic. There are a few options when it comes to black bathroom taps. You can opt for matt black taps or shiny black metal, sometimes called gunmetal. Elevate your monochrome bathroom further by purchasing black bathroom accessories. Black Baths The focal point of most bathrooms is the bath, particularly if you have a freestanding bath. Black baths have been slowly growing in popularity and are now commonly used in black and white bathroom designs. Most black bathtubs are white on the inside, creating a pleasing contrast ideal for monochrome bathrooms. A black freestanding bath adds character and depth without being too overpowering. Consider gold or rose gold taps for some stylish juxtaposition; black and gold bathrooms offer a luxe aesthetic. Alternatively, opt for black bath taps to stay on theme and keep the design dark and moody. Black Toilets As mentioned before, many UK bathrooms have white ceramics. If you want to keep things simple, we suggest pairing a black toilet seat with your white toilet. However, Interior designers now encourage their clients to make bolder colour choices – and we could not agree more! Black ceramics are a bold but elegant choice. Our favourite black bathroom idea is to inject some colour to your walls, such as green or blue, and then opting for a black toilet and black sink. Black Vanity Units It can be hard to relax and unwind in a bathroom full of clutter. A black bathroom vanity combines storage and style! For a black and white bathroom design, select a white basin for contrast. The choices are endless when looking for black bathroom storage. Vanity units are available in many styles, shapes, and sizes. So, you are guaranteed to find one to suit your bathroom space.` Black Bathroom Accessories We understand that black bathroom décor can sound scary. If this is something you are considering but aren’t quite sure, why not start light? If you have a standard white bathroom suite, by simply adding some black bathroom accessories you can create a subtle monochrome look. If you trial this for a little while and decide you love it, take it one step further by adding some black bathroom fixtures such as taps and radiators. 6 quick ways to get your bathroom ready for Autumn

6 quick ways to get your bathroom ready for Autumn Following endless lockdowns, restrictions and weeks spent indoors, we understand if the thought of spending more time at home again after the freedom of summer is making you feel uninspired. However, if your bathroom is looking a little bland, with cooler weather on the horizon we think it’s the perfect opportunity to create a cosy and warm bathroom to unwind in. Autumn has long been symbolised as a time of change when we seek comfort during dropping temperatures with cosy fabrics and warm layers. As the autumnal weather approaches, the turn of the season provides the perfect opportunity to redecorate.  It’s time to cosy up our homes and add splashes of warm colour…and maybe even some spooky vibes?! Here are 6 bathroom decor suggestions to keep your suite looking both spa-like and seasonal, perfectly timed for the changing weather. 1.) Try adding some rustic accents Autumn often conjures up thoughts of pumpkin picking, harvesting crops and crisp, crunchy leaves. To reflect this autumnal feel in your bathroom, why not try adding some new greenery? We love the feathery look of Asparagus Fern. This plant is ideal in a shady corner of the bathroom or a spot on the windowsill. The steam from your shower will naturally mist the leaves, purify the air, and create a crisp autumnal look. 2.) Throw down a new bathroom rug Soft furnishings often get forgotten in a practical and functional bathroom. A soft and cosy bath rug will not only feel great on your feet but also add texture and warmth to your bathroom makeover. If you are feeling brave opt for a burnt orange, ochre or paprika colour to really say Autumn! 3.) Update your shower curtain There is so much choice available when refreshing your shower curtain. From pumpkins to wheat to leaves, the equinox is full of warm and striking tones. An autumnal-inspired floral print shower curtain will remind you of the rich autumnal hues in the changing season outdoors. 4.) Add a gold or amber tone to your bathroom accessories Give your sink a face-lift by updating your soap dispenser or tumbler. An elegant and stylish soap dispenser with bronze detailing will immediately add a little autumn glow. You could even add some new bronze bath hooks or shower baskets for a classy bathroom décor update. 5.) Invest in some new bathroom candles Most of us all love a long soak in a bubble bath with candles and relaxing music. This autumn go one step further with your bathing ritual and try out some of the new scented candles available. We personally love the scent of pumpkin spice and cinnamon! For the creative or those with children, you could even invest in a fun and quirky Halloween-inspired candle as a nod to the spooky holiday event. 6.) Update your heated towel rail For toasty towels on chilly mornings, heat your bathroom and finish your seasonal look with DQ Heating’s stunning moss green heated towel rail, perfect for fall. If you would like to transform your bathroom this autumn or plan a bathroom renovation, contact our expert team. For more bathroom inspiration, browse our case studies.
