Eco-Friendly Bathrooms: The Newest Luxury Trend

An Important Luxury Trend

There have been trends in the homes renovation industry, some of which are purely based on aesthetics. There are current design trends such as mixing of neutral colours with more saturated hues which creates beautiful pops of contrast and light. Another trend involves the mixing of metals- think chrome brass and silver among others, and the ways accents can be used to jazz up and update living spaces. There’s also the trend of modern minimalism which is a trend that thrives towards having less ‘stuff’ in living spaces- essentially owning much less, and taking advantage of functional storage solutions as a way to optimize space.

In this article, we will look at another trend that’s taking the luxury homes trend by storm: eco-friendly bathrooms. Luxury bathroom designs have been purposely created by interior designers all around, and the trend for eco-friendly bathrooms has made its way to the luxury design industry.

In this day and age, sustainable homes are all the rage and the way we see being eco-friendly has changed quite drastically from a few years ago. In the past we might have considered eco-friendly behaviour as switching appliances to energy efficient ones, for example washing machines and refrigerators. Now in its place is something much better suited to modern life: Solar panels! Using solar panel greater reduces the amount of electricity needed to fire up appliances, and there’s no doubt that this is a great way to save energy and move towards energy efficiency.

The great news is that now energy efficiency has moved one step further and is now tackling one of the least eco-friendly rooms in the house.

The Bathroom

Many people every day are oblivious to the huge amounts of water which are used in their bathrooms each time they use the toilet and sink, or take a shower or bath. Water wastage is a huge problem which hasn’t up until now been highlighted enough and it is a serious problem which needs addressing in general. However, there are measures that can be taken to ensure your bathroom is eco-friendly, all the while remaining on trend and fashionable. High end bathrooms are being renovated in ways which are creating sustainability and high efficiency appliances.

Key Eco-Friendly Trends For Luxury Bathrooms

It can be easy to underestimate the importance of using materials which are natural and recyclable as part of your luxury bathroom designs. In fact the materials your luxury bathroom contains can go a very long way in making your bathroom eco-friendly and kind to the planet overall. Steel bathtubs for example are extremely hardwearing and unlike fibre glass or acrylic, which generally end up in landfills (polluting the environment!) when they are no longer useable, can be recycled. Apart from bathroom fittings, many other bathroom elements can be recycled if the elements are made of recyclable material. When looking to add a touch of luxe to your designer bathroom for example, using recycled glass ornaments as decoration can add a touch of glamour to the space while being eco-friendly. It’s a win- win situation! Another key eco-friendly trend for luxury bathrooms involved rimless toilets which are fantastically designed to use less water when water. You might be surprised to know that toilet flushing uses the most water in homes.

The new rimless models of toilets which are available thanks to the eco-friendly trend are much more efficient, and much more sanitary, and ultimately easier to clean too. The next eco-friendly trend might not be a surprise, and involves the way we use lighting in our bathrooms. Replacing all light bulbs with LED’s might seem like a small step but they are incredibly efficient and have a longer lifespan than typical light bulbs. Since they are available in a wide range of colours and colour temperatures, they can also be used to make the bathroom a much more inviting place. LED lighting can be used to strike the perfect mood for your high end bathroom, which should be a place of serenity and relaxation.
