The Kallums contracts team created a bold and striking cloakroom, which is one of three bathrooms from this project. Our dedicated expert team were commissioned by Green County Developments to provide bathroom design services and supply all products. This award nominated cloakroom is an incredible example of transforming a small space into something luxurious. Plus, it offers great inspiration for small bathroom ideas and downstairs toilet ideas.
Brief: A young couple who wanted to refresh their first family home, required three complete bathroom refurbishments. The client had a vision of pairing luxurious materials, marble, wallpaper, with contemporary brushed gold taps and opulent lighting to create a passionate space. For this space in particular , they wanted a luxurious powder room that had bespoke elements and oozed sophistication with a splash of bold colour! Green County Developments needed us to create inspirational spaces that were completely designed from the ground up.
A small bathroom, such as a cloakroom or downstairs toilet, is an ideal room to be bolder with colour and pattern choices. Which is most certainly the case with this stunning cloakroom redesign! Details were key with this project to ensure a striking yet seamless look. Every small detail was chosen to really make the design stand out and bolster the luxurious feel of the space. A key example of this is the brushed brass tile trim we specified to transition between the cloakroom tiles and wallpaper. Plus, a compact towel bar practically located on the deep apron of the countertop.
One of the biggest challenges we incurred was the small space. Being a cloakroom, sandwiched between a utility room and a bedroom, space was limited and not a luxury the architect could afford us. However, by incorporating a bespoke worktop into the design we were able to utilise every inch of space – and in return maximising the design potential and creating a truly tailored bathroom. The overall result is a beautifully functioning powder room that over delivered on the client’s original vision.
Our client chose the extravagant Leopardo wallpaper by Matthew Williamson, which features lots of gold and brass tones. This bathroom wallpaper was ideal for creating a strong focal point that carefully balanced the design with its placement behind the vanity top splash back. Plus, it infused character and opulence into the bathroom décor.
To contrast against the wallpaper, we picked large format white marble tiles from Stone & Ceramic Warehouse. The large format tiles allowed for minimal grout lines that maximised its natural pattern without breaks and helped make the space appear larger. Due to the large format of these tiles, we were able to create a bespoke countertop from the offcuts. The white marble inspired large format textured herringbone tiles from Villeroy & Boch. They offered a stylish contrast that helped to break up and balance the space.
To compliment the white marble countertop and tiles, we opted for a matt white washbowl from Waters Baths. For the cloakroom toilet we chose a matt white wall-mounted toilet from Flaminia to pair with the cloakroom’s basin.
As we mentioned earlier, the bathroom wallpaper features gold and brass tones. Therefore, we chose a wall mounted tap in brushed brass from Crosswater to accentuate these details. The brushed brass tap perfectly frames the matt white cloakroom basin. Small details were key in this project so to keep everything consistent; we chose bathroom accessories and a toilet flush plate in the same brushed brass finish.
Lighting is crucial to make a small space feel larger and for creating a luxurious and ambient tone. To achieve a sophisticated opulence, we specified two pendant lights that hung at contrasting heights over the bespoke worktop to give an extra wow factor. Next, we created a niche shelf above the WC with feature LED lighting plus soft halo LED strip lighting on the ceiling. Finalised with a beautiful large backlit mirror from HIB.
